HISTORY

Our city was named for General Philip Sheridan, cavalry leader during the Civil War. Sheridan is also close to the site of the Battle of Little Bighorn, the epic skirmish that claimed the life of General George Custer. Sheridan is home to numerous historic sites and cultural landmarks, including the Kendrick Mansion, Carriage House Theater and the historic Sheridan Inn, frequented by a host of notable dignitaries.

LOCAL CLIMATE

Our region experiences somewhat typical weather for the northern Rocky Mountains with warm summers and cold winters. Summertime highs can reach above 90 degrees, with usual winter temperatures in the 30s and occasional cold snaps below zero. Sheridan County averages 72 inches of snow per year, with 15 inches of total precipitation annually.


AREA AMENITIES

Local students are served by Sheridan County’s 3 public school districts as well as the Holy Name Catholic School and Martin Luther Grammar School. Sheridan is also home to Sheridan College and a regional office of the University of Wyoming for higher education pursuits. Comprehensive healthcare services in the county are provided by Sheridan Memorial Hospital, the Sheridan VA Medical Center and the Sheridan Health Center.

The famous Eaton’s Ranch in neighboring Wolf is a working dude ranch that features horseback riding, a bed-and-breakfast and a venue to host weddings against a spellbinding mountain backdrop.
